SLAM and its enthusiastic International project development

Russell Coutts and his team, racing onboard the RC 44, test new materials & products in racing conditions

Arriving at the symbolic “turning point” of 25 years of activity, Slam is challenging itself with new goals while firmly maintaining its traditions and passions in the sailing and nautical world. Activities that created and then decisively navigated SLAM, first in Italy and, afterwards, abroad. Garment advancement, international expansion, and technological developments are the staples of this company’s plan.

The experimental, research and developmental phases of Slam’s high-tech garments have always valued the feedback, suggestions and observations of the athletes and sailors that directly test products in the sea and in regattas.

An example of this company philosophy was already evident in the 1980 Moscow Olympics when the Gorla-Peraboni crew won the “Star” class bronze medal in sailing wearing Slam. Today SLAM makes use of the collaboration given by the best sailors in the world: SLAM is the official supplier to the Italian and Irish Sailing Federations and Russell Coutts, three time winner of the America’s Cup and gold medal winner in the Olympics, who is this year taking part in the RC44 Tour Championship. Top performance on boats designed by Russell Coutts himself, with the objective of increasing speed and power and exploiting modern technology in both fleet regattas and match races.

Research and Development: a systematic program

The design phase is in essence a scientific study of the engineering of the garments determined by their intended use. Research into new materials, fabrics, designs and shapes is on-going and leads to a continual improvement in the performance, durability and resistance of SLAM’s products.

Creation and Quality

Quality and innovation are at the heart of the manufacturing process of materials. Garment assembly, style and construction are SLAM’s focal points.

Testing

Passion for the sea and regattas brings forth the need to design and develop products fit for a variety of nautical demands. This is why SLAM gives its utmost attention to the development of varying high performance products and, having acquired persified levels of experience, has created 3 lines of garments.

ADVANCED

Garments characterized as high performance thanks to their exceptional innovative and technical qualities. Suitable for professionalists or extremists.

TECHNOLOGY

Reaping the benefits of the technical research achieved in SLAM’s Advanced line, the Technology line offers high profile and long-lasting garments finished with state-of-the-art materials and meticulous attention.

SPORTWEAR

Having the same “DNA” as SLAM’s Advanced and Technology apparel, the Sportswear line means updated quality with technical designs and solutions. The look is notably nautical and the commitment to detail and tasteful colors is nonstop.

Manufacturing

Innovation is indispensable for SLAM’s research department, not only for materials and styling but also for the basic technical assembly and construction of garments. Thermal seam taping makes garments totally waterproof; “PU” fastenings featured on the cuffs of many jackets together with velcro straps provide a double fastening system to prevent wind and water penetration; “Seamless” construction makes it possible to engineer circular, smooth fabrics without any bulk; and “3Layer” which consists of the lamination (or layering) of 3 separate materials.
